RULEBOOK OVERVIEW

1.1 These rules are intended to provide for the orderly conduct of all racing events and to establish the minimum acceptable requirements for participation.
1.2 The interpretation and enforcement of all rules published shall be the responsibility of “MAOSS” officials, and their decisions are final.
1.3 By signing the official membership form, the participant agrees to become familiar with all the rules and abide by the specifications and procedures as written in this rulebook by “MAOSS” and its officials.
1.4 No warranty of safety shall result from compliance with these rules, specifications and procedures as written in this rulebook by “MAOSS”. They are only a guide for the control of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to participants, crew members, spectators, track officials, or any others.
1.5 “MAOSS” scales are the official scales for every racing event. Weight rule infractions as determined by the use of these scales shall not be subject to protest.
1.6 “MAOSS” officials reserve the right to reject any car and driver entry based on non-compliance with the rules set forth in this document.
1.7 “MAOSS” officials reserve the right to change the race format for any event at any time. (number of cars, laps, races, etc. )
1.8 “MAOSS” officials reserve the right to inspect any car at any time for compliance with the rules written in this book.
1.9 No other class of cars will be permitted to participate in any “MAOSS” event unless they meet the requirements as written in this rulebook. Exceptions will only be taken with full size mini sprints having different types of engines and drive lines. The officials of “MAOSS” will make the decision on these exceptions.

GENERAL RULES

2. MEMBERSHIP
2.1 A driver will be required to be a member of “MAOSS” to receive points and money at any sanctioned event.
2.2 There will be a $25 non-member fee per event for drivers who do not wish to become active “MAOSS” members. If at any point, the driver decides to join “MAOSS” these fees will be applied to membership.
2.3 Membership fees are $100 dollars for drivers. All membership fees go directly into club account for point fund, web fees, awards banquet, etc.
2.4 A driver must be a full member of “MAOSS”, display club sponsor decals, and participate in at least 75% of “MAOSS” events to be eligible for year end point fund.
2.5 A driver who wishes to participate in any “MAOSS” event under the age of 18 must present a notarized waiver signed by their legal guardian to “MAOSS” officials for approval. His/Her notarized waiver shall be given to the “MAOSS” official for filing.

3. CONDUCT
3.1 Any fighting, unsportsmanlike conduct, drinking, or use of illegal drugs prior to or during any event by a driver, crew member, owner, or friends in the pit area could cause the suspension of the driver and owner from any remaining events for the rest of the season. “MAOSS” officials will make the final decision on these matters.
3.2 The owner of the race car is responsible for the behavior of the driver, crew members, and/or friends in the pit area.
3.3 Any physical action taken by a driver, car owner, crew member, or friend against any individual or personal property could result in the suspension of the driver and owner for the rest of the season. “MAOSS” officials will make the final decision on these matters.

4. INSPECTIONS
4.1 All cars must pass a safety inspection each year. Inspections will be done at the “MAOSS” sign in area prior to warm ups. All cars and drivers must comply with the safety rules by the 3rd event of the season.
4.2 Any car can be inspected at any time by any “MAOSS” official to ensure legality of weight, motor displacement, and safety equipment.
4.3 The top 3 finishers from the “A-Main feature event” will be weighed using the “MAOSS” official scales if manpower is available at the conclusion of the event prior to returning to their pit area.
4.4 Random engine inspections (for engine displacement only) could be conducted on any feature event participant at the Board’s discretion.
4.5 Using the inside bore gage and the dial indicator, measurements will be taken and calculated using the stroke x bore x 4 (# of cylinders x .7854 x 16.387 converts inches to cubic centimeters) formula to determine the CC’s.
4.6 The penalty for weight, fuel, or engine displacement infractions will be forfeit of prize money and points for that race event. Multiple infractions will result in further action by “MAOSS” officials, to be determined at that time.
4.7 Engine specifications for the 2007 season are a maximum of 1202 CCs. We will monitor and make an effort to control costs.

5. RACE EVENT
5.1 Each participating track will discuss the procedure of the night’s events and how that event will be conducted.
5.2 Starts and restarts are to be determined by the track. All drivers must comply with the rules for that night.
5.3 The car on the pole sets the pace for the event. It will be a safe, slow pace for the start.
5.4 We will always use single file restarts nose to tail. No passing will be permitted until the point on the track determined by the track officials for that night. If you pass before that point, you will be penalized by “MAOSS” officials at the conclusion of the said event.
5.5 During a caution or red flag, no one will be allowed to enter the race track. Only track officials will be allowed on the track. You may enter with their permission only, but no work may be conducted under red flag conditions.
5.6 If it is the track’s policy, you may go to the pits for repairs during a caution, and re-enter the track to restart at the rear of the field providing you are on the track before the green flag restart.
5.7 Most tracks revert back to the last lap completed on a caution flag. Hold your position and the track officials will get you in the proper restart order.
5.8 If a driver qualifies 2 race cars, the last car qualified starts the feature event. An alternate car may be used if the car qualified cannot start the feature event. The alternate car and driver must start at the rear of the event.
5.9 Any driver changing cars must check in with the “MAOSS” officials before the event and will be placed at the back of the line-up.
5.10 If a driver causes a delay in the program with spin outs, the track we are at will determine how many will be allowed. We suggest that 2 unassisted spin outs will result in the car being sent to the pits.
5.11 All cars must be numbered and approved by “MAOSS” officials. Any cars with duplicate numbers will be asked to place a letter or single digit number after their number. “MAOSS” number registration will be conducted with seniority taking precedence, then on a first come first served basis.

6. RAIN OUTS
6.1 In the event of a rain out, depending on the track in question, “MAOSS” will attempt to get the event rescheduled. In the event all heats are completed and weather prevents the running of the feature event “MAOSS” officials will determine the procedure for paying out the feature event.



7. LINE UPS
7.1 All cars must be lined up in the staging area correctly before the start of the race. Staging area will be determined by the track.
7.2 All features will be 15, 20 or 25 laps unless noted on the schedule. The length will be determined at each event. The only exceptions will be if the track has a curfew and the race has to be shortened to accommodate that curfew.

8. LINE UP PROCEDURES AND POINTS
8.1 Driver sign-in must be completed at the “MAOSS” sign in trailer 30 minutes before the track’s drivers meeting, or you will be placed at the back of the last heat race.
8.2 Heat race line ups are determined by the luck of the draw at the time of sign in at the “MAOSS” trailer. The number of heat races will be determined by the number of cars that sign in that night. Typically we will run 2 heats if fewer than 21 cars, 3 heats for 21 to 30 cars. 31 or more cars will require 4 heats.
8.3 Line up for 2 heats will be #1 pill will start on the pole of heat one. #2 pill will start on the pole of heat two. #3 pill will start outside front row of heat one. #4 pill will start outside front row of heat two and so on.
8.4 If two heats are run, the top five from each heat will draw to determine the line up for the first 5 rows of the feature. The number drawn will be the starting position for that driver. The cars who finished in 6th position in there heat will start in row 6 and so on.
8.5 A B-main will be run if the field exceeds 20 cars. This may change depending on the track in question. This will be lined up in heads up order with the top 4 cars making up the last 2 rows of the feature event.

8.7 No points will be awarded for the B-main. Only drivers registered with “MAOSS” will be able to accumulate points for any event.
8.8 The Board reserves the right to determine the number of heats and number of cars for the feature draw before the start of the first heat race.

9. SAFETY RULES
9.1 Snell 2000 approved full face helmet. Snell 2005 is recommended.
9.2 Proper eye protection.
9.3 Fire retardant suit, shoes and gloves in good condition.
9.4 Drivers neck brace or head and neck restraint system.
9.5 Arm restraints.
9.6 Approved 5 point lap, shoulder harness and sub belt. (Can not be over 3 years old) Belts must also be attached in a safe manner as approved by the “MAOSS” officials and the manufactures guidelines.
9.7 Kill switch within the drivers reach with arm restraints on.
9.8 Fuel shut off marked in bright color. Preferably near the right rear corner of the car.
9.9 Each pit crew must have an approved fire extinguisher in good working order. Fire extinguisher must be in full view at the rear of the race trailer.
9.10 Fuel cell or tail tank. (Tank and bladder are recommended)
9.11 Roll bar padding on any bar that may come in contact with the drivers head.
9.12 Cars using a stock bore and stroke engine of 1000cc or less must weigh 925 lbs, car and driver at the end of the race. Any care using any motor other than a stock bore and stroke 1000cc or smaller engine must weigh 975lbs, car and driver at the end of the race.
9.13 An X or A frame behind the driver is mandatory.
9.14 Throttle must be foot operated, and have a return strap.
9.15 Steering box or rack and pinion steering is mandatory on all cars.
9.16 Clutch is mandatory. The car must take off on its own power.
9.17 Engine must self start from the driver’s cockpit.
9.18 Sprint car style window cage net mounted on the right side of the cage is mandatory, unless a full containment seat is be used.



10. CAR SPECIFATIONS
10.1 Sprint or modified style hood. Must have sprint appearing tail. Side portion of cockpit must be filled with panels.
10.2 10 inch number of contrasting color must be on both sides of the tail tank and both sides of the wing.
10.3 The letter “A” for alcohol or a “G” for gasoline on each side of the neck of the tail tank assembly for safety crews.
10.4 No electronic traction control devices allowed.
10.5 Advertising “A” panels can not protrude further than 1 inch beyond the rear chassis down tubes.
10.6 No “sail panels” will be allowed on any part of the car including side bars or bumpers.

11. WINGS
11.1 Must have top wing. 16square foot maximum allowed.
11.2 48 inch wide maximum wing body.
11.3 48 inch long maximum wing body.
11.4 22 inch high x 56 inch long tight sideboard maximum or 25 inch rear tapered to 19 inch front.
11.5 28 inch high x 56 inch long left side board maximum.
11.6 Left and right sideboard combined maximum 19 square feet.
11.7 Wing sliders are allowed.
11.8 Nose wings are allowed. May not exceed further than 18 inch forward of the front axle.
11.9 20 inch long x 30 inch wide maximum side boards and 12 inch high x 22 inch long maximum.

12. GENERAL
12.1 Safety rock screens are mandatory and must reach between the uprights of the roll cage.
12.2 All cars must have a floor pan.
12.3 Wet cell batteries mounted in the cockpit must be covered and vented.
12.4 All bolts should be grade 5 or better and should have lock washers or lock nuts.
12.5 There must be a firewall between the engine compartment and the driver.
12.6 No rubber fuel lines are to run through the cockpit area.

13. CHASSIS SPECS.
13.1 Wheel base 60 inch minimum and 72 inch maximum. (Center of hub to center of hub)
13.2 Front width 45 inch minimum and 64 inch maximum. (Outside of tire to outside of tire)
13.3 Rear width 45 inch minimum and 68 inch maximum. (Outside of tire to outside of tire)
13.4 Height 48 inch minimum. (Ground to top of cage)
13.5 Frame must be upright midget or sprint car style.
13.6 Front mounted engine only. Engine and transmission must be totally forward of roll cage.
13.7 2/3 of engine must be inside frame rails.
13.8 Rollcage: 28 inch maximum width. Construction of minimum 1 ¼ inch .120 mild steel or .095 chrome molly steel tubing.
13.9 Main sections of the frame: same spec. as rollcage.
13.10 Secondary tubing (bracing) ¾ inch O.D. x .065 wall minimum.

14. REAREND
14.1 Rear wheel drive only.
14.2 One piece live axle only. 1 3/8 inch minimum O.D.
14.3 Axle must have snap ring, or nut at each end to keep wheels from coming off.
14.4 No differentials or quick change rear ends.
14.5 There shall be no accessories such as wheel hubs, sprocket hubs, brake hubs, etc. welded to the rear axle.
14.6 Panhard bars and radius rods must be a minimum of 9/16 inch O.D. and .065 mild steel.

15. NERF BARS
15.1 Must be attached to the frame and be a minimum of ¾ inch O.D. and .065 wall mild steel.
15.2 Nerf bars must extend to the inside of the tires, but not beyond outside edge.
15.3 No sharp or pointed edges.
15.4 Front and rear bumpers must not extend past the outside of the main frame. No sharp edges of corners allowed that could hook another car.

16. SUSPENSION
16.1 Suspension on all four wheels. ( coil over, torsion or leaf spring design)
16.2 No independent front or rear suspension.

17. FUEL CELLS
17.1 Pressurized fuel system not allowed.
17.2 Fuel tank must be fully protected and securely fastened. Tank must be mounted separately from the driver’s compartment. (Tank and bladder are recommended)

18. WHEELS AND TIRES
18.1 Tires must be pneumatic.
18.2 Right rear must be a Hoosier D15 compound.
18.3 13 inch maximum tire surface.
18.4 12 inch rim width on right rear.
18.5 Steel or aluminum wheels allowed.
18.6 Bead-locks are allowed. (recommended on right rear)
18.7 13 inch tire and wheel diameter only.

19. ROLLCAGE
19.1 Roll cage must be 6 point design.
19.2 The top of the driver’s helmet must not extend beyond the top or the rollcage when the diver is seated.
19.3 Must be a minimum of 1 ¼ inch x .095 wall chrome molly.
19.4 Shoulder bars are highly recommended.
19.5 No square or pointed corners are allowed.
19.6 All bends must be a 3 inch radius minimum.
19.7 Knee pads are highly recommended.
19.8 All chains must be covered in the driver’s compartment.

20. CARBURETORS AND INJECTION
20.1 No turbo or supercharging.
20.2 Mechanical carbs. Mechanical injection or electronic injection are allowed.
20.3 Regular or premium gas, aviation fuel, Sunoco VP, turbo blue and alcohol (methanol) are allowed.
20.4 No oxygen bearing fuel or additives allowed, with the exception of top oil for lubrication if using alcohol.

21. BRAKES
21.1 All cars must have hydraulically operated brakes on the rear axle.
21.2 Brakes must be in good working order.
21.3 Front brakes are optional.

22. COOLING SYSTEM
22.1 Radiators and oil coolers cannot be mounted in the driver compartment.

23. EXHAUST SYSTEM
23.1 Exhaust system cannot at any time enter the driver compartment.
23.2 Mufflers are mandatory.

24. FRONT END STEERING
24.1 The steering gear must be in good working order.
24.2 Radius rods, panhard bar, drag link and tie rod ends must be a minimum of 3/8 inch thread size and a minimum of 9/16 inch x .120 wall thickness.
24.3 Front axel must be a minimum of 1 ¼ inch O.D. x .120 wall mild steel or .095 wall chrome molly.
24.4 Steering wheel shaft minimum 5/8 inch O.D.
24.5 Steering wheel hub must be quick release type or pin style.

25. ENGINES
25.1 Motorcycle, up to 4-cylinder inline 4 cycle only.
25.2 All cars must be self starting.
25.3 Maximum engine displacement 1202cc +1% for wear.
25.4 After market ignition allowed. (no magnetos)
25.5 No stroker crankshafts allowed. Stock stroke from engine manufacturer only.
